Sport Clubs & Associations
What sports do we support?
We have modified our version of the Council of Europe’s Charter on Sport to come up with the following definition for what we mean when we say sport:
“All forms of physical activity, which through organised participation follow a governed set of rules with an aim of maintaining or improving physical fitness and mental wellbeing, forming social relationships or obtaining results in competition at all levels, on the Isle of Man”.
ARCHERY | ATHLETICS | BADMINTON | BASKETBALL | BMX | BOWLS (CROWN GREEN) | BOWLS (LAWN) | BOXING | CRICKET | CROSSFIT | CYCLING | DANCE | DARTS | EQUESTRIAN | FENCING | GOLF | FOOTBALL | GAELIC FOOTBALL | GYMNASTICS | HANDBALL | HOCKEY | JUDO | JIU JITSU | KARATE | MARSHAL ARTS (OTHER) | MOTORSPORT | MOUNTAIN BIKING | NETBALL | POOL | POWERLIFTING | ROWING | RUGBY | SAILING | SHOOTING (CLAY PIGEON) | SHOOTING (PISTOL) | SHOOTING (RIFLE) | SNOOKER | SKATEBOARDING | SQUASH | SWIMMING | TABLE TENNIS | TAEKWONDO | TENNIS | TRIATHLON | VOLLEYBALL | WATER POLO | WEIGHTLIFTING
We aim to be as comprehensive and inclusive as possible when considering the scope of our support, but if you represent a sport that we haven’t listed above then please don’t hesitate to get in touch and start that conversation hello@playmaker.im
What support can we offer your sports club or association?
We provide financial assistance to young people in the Isle of Man who otherwise wouldn’t be able to access your sport.
This discretionary support may come in the form of:
- Club fees (paid directly to local sports clubs and associations).
- Provision of new or quality second-hand equipment.
- Provision of kit new, quality second hand kit or kit vouchers.
- Transport costs in the form of pre-loaded Bus Vannin Go Cards or private taxi accounts.
- Other associated costs.
Who is this for?
Our aim is to remove the financial barriers to participation, enabling young people who have already tried and enjoyed a sport at the foundation level (i.e. in school), the opportunity to join a local club. Our support will also cover any children or young people who have participated in club sport in the past, but may have come in to financial hardship, the opportunity to resume or continue their passions if this isn’t something you don’t have provision for within your association or club.
At this stage, PlayMaker is not looking to fund the progression from participation through to a ‘performance’ or ‘elite’ level, however we understand that this can often be a grey area and as such are always happy to discuss any specific cases with you. Please just get in touch.
We are using the term ‘children and young people’ as this is a discretionary charity, and support won’t automatically be cut-off when a young person reaches 18. That said, we are unable to fund individuals indefinitely, so where possible we will work with each young person to agree a reasonable adjustment period for withdrawal of their financial support.
Enroling your Sports Club
In order for us to be able to offer support to children and young people looking to join your club, there is some important information we need to gather from you. This will help understand the following:
- Cost of training, affiliation and competition.
- Frequency of payments and likely length of support required.
- Kit requirements and associated costs.
- Equipment requirements, health and safety considerations and costs.
- Location and timings of training and competitions.
- Existing support offered within your club/sport.
- Notice periods for leaving sport or any other financial commitments.
- The length of your season and any gaps in provision for specific ages/genders .
- Your disability provision and potential requirements
We are working hard behind the scenes to get you as much information as we can. As soon as we are able, we will share the support application forms, fundraising ideas and much more.
